J. Wilson, who lives near Des Moines, Iowa, for the 46 days of Lent gave up all food and drink except for beer. He drank nothing but Illuminator Doppelbock brewed by the Rock Bottom Brewery in Des Moines. He started with 4 12 oz. servings per day but had to up it to 5 servings for more energy and strength. Wilson documented the journey in his blog Diary of a Part-Time Monk. At the end of the fast, Wilson had lost about 25 pounds (from 160 to 135) and eased back into solid food with a bacon smoothie and by brewing up a 10-gallon batch of home brew, certainly not a doppelbock.
