Epic Brewing Imperial Red Ale Tasting Notes

Epic Brewing has three selections of beer releases and their most exclusive and unique beers belong to the Exponential Series, of which Imperial Red Ale is a member. How unique is this beer? Epic Brewing, of Salt Lake City, Utah only makes 1800 bottles produced per batch.

Epic Imperial Red pours out with a dark redwood, amber color with a very frothy, oaky-yellow color. The aroma is malty and biscuity with notes of caramel, flowers, and fresh cut wood. Many times this style of beer mutes the bitterness with sweet malt but Epic’s Imperial Red is loaded with bitter hops and still plenty of sweetness. The sweetness does not come off as over the top because of the contrasting bitter bite.

Overall, Epic Imperial Red Ale has similarities to Oskar Blues G’Knight and Ballast Point Calico Amber but it sets itself apart from others with more of a bitter bite and a less aggressive hop aroma. A very good beer.
